- I am a Chinese economist teaching in a small liberal arts university in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. I am a Christian, follower of Jesus Christ. I accepted Christ in 1994 and was baptized in 1995. My Chinese name is Chan Tak Yan. "Tak" in Chinese means good conduct and "Yan" mean grace. My grandfather gave this name to me, hoping that I could be a blessed and responsible person. I was born in Hong Kong and migrated to Canada in 1993. I have a biochemistry degree from the University of Toronto and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Western Ontario. I am an economist and I am teaching at Atlantic Baptist University in Moncton, NB. Even though I am not a native English speaker, I do enjoy teaching in a small Christian University like ABU. I speak English and my mother tongue is Cantonese, which is a dialect of Chinese. I am planning to learn Mandarin as well as French soon ...
